About the artist

Lori Anne McKague is a Canadian freestyle artist based in British Columbia. Although she enjoyed a 40-year career in advertising and graphic design, she only began drawing after retirement, when she began developing her own artistic voice and practice. Inspired by worldwide travel, nature, vibrant colour, and the interplay between organic and geometric forms, McKague creates intricate works characterized by expressive line, imaginative detail, and playful visual movement. Her practice reflects a sense of curiosity, discovery, and creative freedom. Over the past year, McKague has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions locally, regionally and internationally. She is a member of the Chilliwack Visual Arts Association and participates in several art councils throughout British Columbia’s Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland, remaining actively involved in the region’s arts community. In 2026, McKague was named the Abbotsford Arts Council’s Lifestyle Artist of the Year. She has also received several honourable mentions and finalist awards in international art competitions. Her work has expanded into wearable art, prints, puzzles, accessories, home goods, and licensing collaborations.

I create vibrant freestyle artworks that combine expressive line, intricate detail, organic forms, and geometric structure in playful, richly layered compositions. My work is deeply connected to a sense of curiosity and creative freedom; I begin with a simple line or shape and allow intuition to guide the development of patterns, forms, and visual movement. Working through drawing, repetition, layering, and digital colour, I transform observations from nature, worldwide travel, and the imagination into distinctive visual worlds that balance structure with spontaneity. My style is colourful, intricate, whimsical, and contemporary, with each piece reflecting my fascination with unexpected relationships between shape, pattern, and colour. I hope my art encourages viewers to slow down, look closer, and embrace the joy of discovery, possibility, and creative play.
